Description of Nadia and Jitse

We made a room divider from 2 shelving units from TOSIZE.fr in our living room to create a separate dining room and living room. This way we have a cabinet in which we can put our dishes in the dining room and with the back against it a TV cabinet for the living room. For the TV cabinet we used an example of a photo from Pinterest, the china cabinet is completely designed by ourselves. We used IKEA doors in our designs.

How I made this project

We first drew the cabinets on paper and measured the desired proportions. The sliding doors of the TV cabinet and the passage between the two rooms had to be taken into account. We wanted to combine the doors of TOSIZE.fr with other doors. We used IKEA doors for this because you can order them in many different sizes and also separately. We then designed the cabinet in the online configurator. We wanted sliding doors in the TV cabinet. This way we can close it when we are not watching TV and then you only see the beautiful cabinet. In addition, we wanted to make two arches in the two outer columns in the upper compartments to create some contrast with all the right angles. The TV cabinet consists of two cabinets. The bottom cabinet is 50 cm deep. We made a cabinet of 40 cm deep on top of this. You can read how we did this in Ivonne's story with the DIY projects "sideboard with TOSIZE Furtniture in black oak furniture panel". In the top of the lower cabinet we milled a piece for the rails of the sliding doors. And in the plank that we had left over from the upper cabinet we did the same, we then attached this plank on top of this cabinet. Then we sawed two planks to size for the arches. These planks were 0.5 cm thick. With the help of the milling machine we were able to cut two beautiful arches from them. We secured these planks on the inside with reinforcement angles. Then we covered the inside of the arches with 0.8 mm thick birch aircraft plywood. This plywood runs from the beam of the upper compartment up along the arch and back down against the beam. This way you don't see any seams. The doors that we used for the TV cabinet are the ENKÖPING kitchen doors. For the sliding doors we used two 60x200cm doors. In the lower cabinet there are 6 doors of 40x60cm. For the china cabinet we used two PAX doors of 2.29 meters high. We designed the rest of the cabinet according to our own insight. If you also want to use IKEA doors, make sure you take the shelves of TOSIZE.fr that are 38 cm thick. This is just as thick as two shelves from IKEA. This way you can attach an IKEA door to both sides of the shelf without them touching each other.
